We all run into challenges in our lives from to time to time and when this happens, we can benefit from someone coming alongside us, to help us see our way through and to emerge stronger. That’s what this programme aims to do.

·      Do you live in Sale West or the surrounding area and have at least one child under the age of 12?

AND

·      Do you ever feel as though you could do with a friend to talk to?

·      Are you anxious about daily life?

·      Do you ever feel isolated and lonely?

·      Could you use some help in problem solving?

·      Would you like support to manage your life or family life better?

Then, this programme could be for you.

A mentor is a “friend with purpose” who offers help and mentoring towards life goals and it’s free to families who are accepted onto the programme!

You’ll be matched with a pair of mentors and you’ll meet with them for 1-2 hours per week for about 12 months. This is reviewed after 6 months, and again after a year.

Mentors aim to effect positive change in the lives of the families they are supporting by:

·      helping them to set and accomplish life goals;

·      providing support through ongoing challenges, such as long term unemployment, isolation and family breakdown; and

·      encouraging long term connection within the community.

The Cave

The Cave is a youth club which is run in association with Trafford Youth for Christ and Sale West Community Church. It was developed out of the detached work that was happening every Thursday night on the Sale West estate. The team felt there was a need to have a safe place for the young people and children of Sale West to be invited to on a regular basis.

The Cave operates out of the Youth Centre in Sale West Community Centre most Thursday evenings. Younger children (from Reception to Year 6) can attend between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm, and older youth (Year 7 +) meet there from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm.

Here are some of our recent projects

Munch Club

The Munch Club is a club that meets in the school holidays to provide a hot nutritious meal to children aged 5-11 years old. The club provides children with a meal and fun activities to do such as face painting, craft activities and parachute games. We want to help families and children enjoy their time away from school, we recognise that the holidays can be a strain on relationships and finances and we want to help alleviate some of that strain in a positive and constructive way.

Community Fun Days

We work with other community groups such as SWAP and Our Sale West to provide community fun days for everyone to enjoy. The local housing associations are also keen to participate and often contribute financially. We want to promote the positives in our community and provide opportunities for people to build up community relations; for local businesses to be celebrated and local talent applauded. It is always good to see people of all ages meeting together and enjoying the activities on offer.

Christmas Events

We like to make sure that the Christian message is always celebrated at Christmas and we make sure that the community have the opportunity to think about why they are celebrating Christmas. We work with other community organisations to make sure that all members of the community enjoy the Christmas season.
